House/Apartment Room Tour – Boho, Tumblr, Urban Outfitters Inspired

Hello beautiful friends!

It’s been summer for a while now, which also means I’ve been out of school for a while, too.  I’m going into my fourth year of university and am moving into a new apartment with my best friend next week.  (Prepare for ‘before’ photos!)

I thought today I would show you an apartment room tour of the room I rented in a house.  True, while not an apartment I figure this post will likely draw in those with smaller-spaces, apartments, or those who are also room-renters.

I’ll also mention throughout the post where I got my furniture and decor, incase you are interested in finding something similar.

For those into history or art: The room I was renting was the former master bedroom of artist Alex Colville and his wife Rhoda.  Their beautiful home is filled with many bedrooms, which are rented out to students each year.

It was a great place to live for the year, it’s a beautiful home that is well-kept and spacious.  All furniture is my own, but those renting can have their room furnished.

(Try not to cringe too hard at that power cord)

Because the room is a deep charcoal/navy colour, I knew it would be important to add lots of mirrors and bright coloured items/furniture too offset those dark tones.  Sometimes you need to be careful with darker colours as the colour of a room can completely transform not only a space, but also how you feel in it.

You may remember my bed from my old master bedroom at the farmhouse.  It was purchased on Kijiji and repainted.

The euro pillowcase in the front was a thrift-find.  Never turn your nose up at the ‘linens’ section!
The ruffle bedding is Bethany Mota for Aeropostale, but a close-second and more affordable than the waterfall ruffle bedding from Urban Outfitters:

(keep in mind I didn’t iron my ruffles heh heh)

To the left of my space, was my desk and sitting area… where I spent a lot of time studying.  My desk is from Ikea and the chair I used is actually a dining chair from my old dining room.  The hanging chair (arguably the star of the show) was a $100 second-hand find.

I was taking some renovation-mess to the dump one time when a man was throwing out a vintage ladder, which he gave to me instead.
The Nova Scotia painting is a watercolour original I painted myself and framed.

All of the little floor-details are Winners/Homesense finds. (Marshall’s/Homegoods for you folks in the states!)

A flamingo watercolour painting I did a couple years back added another pop of colour to the stark walls.

The mirrored dresser is a Homesense find.  The light-up letter sign is sold at Urban Outfitters, but I scored at Winners.  The crosby record player I obtained on Kijiji, but again can be found at Urban Outfitters.  The antler is (sorry) real, and from my dad.

The vintage paddle was found at a yardsale.

My dad is always reminding me to have fun at school and enjoy the experience.  He has so many crazy stories of his time spent at college.  I pinned up his college shirt as a reminder of my dad, and to take breaks from the books.  I would love to have this shirt in a shadow-frame someday.

Both chairs pictured are from Wicker Emporium.

The gold deer head was actually a Wal-Mart find!

I loved having these dreamcatchers above my bed.  I made them last summer during down-time at my job.

That sums up my apartment room tour!  I’m so excited to show you what we have in mind for our apartment for the year ahead.  Let me know if you have any questions about this space!
