10 Awesome Small Bathroom Ideas

10 Awesome Small Bathroom Ideas
Hello friends!

Jeff & I are busy working away at the house. There’s something in the air that comes with a new year that beckons you to take on challenges with a fresh outlook. All of our hard work seems to be paying off, too, as we almost have our entire house purged & organized.

We are soon going to be tackling a new project…

The downstairs bathroom.

There are so many things wrong with this bathroom… the lack of ventilation and the ‘pull string’ light – for starters. Last Christmas, we added a new shower head and traded the vanity for a pedestal sink to maximize the space within this room – but then left it to tackle other more important projects. (That’s life!)

Today I’m going to show you 10 awesome small bathrooms ideas that are inspiring me for this new project – Our bathroom won’t be exactly the same, but the ideas here are too good to not take something from.

1) Shelf above your mirror

The shelf above this mirror is a perfect solution if you have vertical space to spare – even if it wasn’t used for functionality it would be ideal for a decorative aspect.

2) Ladders

Ladders (especially old, worn ones) are a favourite of mine in bathrooms or anywhere where you need a lot of rungs to hang things. They are absolutely perfect for towels, magazines, or even housecoats!

3) Beautiful Mirrors

An ideal way to add interest and glamour to a small bathroom or powder room is with a fun, intricate mirror. Whether vintage or a modern finish and shape – it’s sure to have your guests swooning over your space.

4) Cabinets

It may sound surprising – but if you have the room for it, a large cabinet tucked within an area of your bathroom can add grandeur to a small bathroom while creating an ultimate functional storage space for your bathroom essentials and decor. If it has doors underneath – such as this one –  you can hide cleaning supplies as well as other items you wish to have out of sight.

5) Planked walls

Painted planked walls are a timeless staple within farmhouses, cabin style homes, and cottages. In a small space horizontal planks can help create the illusion of a wider room, while vertical planks elongate the walls making the ceiling appear higher.

6) Unconventional storage

I just had to add in this gorgeous piece made out of mason jars. In a small room you need to utilize every storage solution you can to create functionality and flow. For instance, this mason jar organizer helps remove the visual clutter from this sink creating cleaner lines, and more room on the counter for you and any guests you may have.

7) Open storage

Not only does open storage store away things like towels, cleaning supplies, and re-fills – but it also serves as a fantastic way to visually open up the space. If there were doors on this cabinet it would appear bulkier and less free-flowing.

8) Pedestal sinks

With all of these great storage ideas listed, you will have room for a pedestal sink if you wish to add one! Pedestals sinks are often inexpensive and again help remove that visual clutter and creates flow within a small bathroom or powder room.

9) Hooks

Adding hooks instead of rods allow for extra towels to be hung to dry. They can also be versatile as seen in these photos – hanging up a basket, holding jewelry, or for hanging house coats. While rods are functional, they take up more wall space and won’t allow you to hang quite as many items.

10) Shelves

You don’t need to have existing built-ins to add in a few shelves in your bathroom! Utilizing your wall space is key for a small bathroom, and as seen in these photos can also be visually pleasing. Apart from your bathroom essentials – you could hang artwork, decor, or meaningful pieces you want to share.

I hope you loved all of this amazing inspiration as much as I did! I can’t wait to get started on our next renovation. Stay tuned!

    • Thank you Angela! We have started the planking in our bathroom and I *hope* we can finish most of the bathroom by next weekend ;) But you watch – it will be a month from now! haha

I wish for any one of them. My one (1) full bath is smaller than any of those and I hated it before I purchased the house, but the neighborhood is so fantastic and a short, lovely street…… ya know?

    • They are gorgeous! Our full downstairs bath is teeny tiny… so I won’t be able to do everything in this round-up, but we just started the planking so I’m excited to see what I can do with it once it’s all painted! :)

  3. What great ideas and they all look gorgeous!

  10. Beautiful ideas, some of them though I feel are less practical for actual small spaces like ladders. But shelving in uncommon places like above the mirror or a doorway are great!
